JORGE CALERO DEPARTED FROM HIS NATIVE COLOMBIA IN 1987  LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO DEVELOP HIS CREATIVITY ,FINDING IN PORTUGAL A LOVELY  PLACE TO SETTLE EVEN THOUGH HIS HEART REMIND IN THE TROPICS WITH ALL THE DELIRIOUS BEWITCHMENT OF LANDSCAPES AND WARMNESS OF  PEOPLE. 

IN HIS  TROPICAL JUNGLE  LANDSCAPES, THE MAIN CONCERN CONSIST IN THE STUDY OF COLOR AND LIGHT OR RATHER THE SUBTLE BOUNDARIES BETWEEN MATERIAL FORMS AND THEIR ETHEREAL ESSENCE.  THEREFORE, IN THE BASED  MULTIRITMICAL COMPOSITIONS WITH PLENTY OF EMOTIONAL POWER HE GUIDE US TROUGH  CHROMATICALLY SUBLIMATION OF SHEER JOY, LEADING THE SPECTATOR  TO BEWILDERMENT ONLY FELT  IN FRONT OF THE MOST SURPRISING NATURAL PHENOMENA.

CONSIOUSLY,THE ARTIST LED US TO NA ECOLOGICAL  AWARENESS WHICH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH  PRESERVATION PUBLICITY, BUT WITH THE REAL RELIGIOUS DEVOTION  TO OUR  PRIMARY MOTHER, GAIA; WHOSE CULT IS THE ONLY ONE  ABLE TO SAVE OUR PLANET FROM PRESENT DEGRADATION AND FUTURE DESTRUCTION

Paintings by Jorge Calero - the metaphysical sense

In the sight of the most sensible espectator,nature seems to be an autonomous force, marvelous in its polycromic splendor,infinite in plastic motivations.but  in reality, nature  is not a  thematic leit-motiv but the true face of transcendance,as if Calero in his intimate message would like to transmit a phanteistic ideology,God is there,hidden among the shrubs,astonish in his own transcendance,refracted in the eye of a tropical bird.

One of the most immediate characteristics of Calero´s paintings is the tropical  fauna and flora and the chomatical exuberance,even knowing that he portraits his native country´s nature,one can assume that those are inner landscapes because his tropicalism is animic and spiritual. Therefore the circumstances conceded to his work  does´nt relay on geographical boundaries but on his human dimension.

Between a certain phantastic-realism  and a new baroque specially emphasized by the profuseness of elements and forms enriched by  exuberant colours,almost dazing the spectator, Jorge Calero, a Colombian artist living in Portugal since 1987 shows na interesting body of works based on intense workshop  labour and specially  on exploring his own cultural roots.

Composing with frenzy naturalistic forms filled with imagination were all the musics of silence fit,the artist appears like na excellent  singer of nature, transforming it in a very original way,using subtle transparencies and reinventing tonalities for greens and blues which only a very experienced  artist can do.

Paintigs made of memories,above all,challenging all the limits of imagination,such na imagination as the sun enlighting his native country and springs with such a power and life his task of creation.

There is  nothing like  the artist´s imagination to recreate nature´s elements in compositions that seems to  flow out from the hands of a God sudely drunk by the happiness of  living in beauty.Fruits and flowers,shrubs  trees and insects,located in  visual alternation with various nuances and not only  starlish images. Pictures that are not only spiritual expressions of a sort of poetry in a dreamer of romantic beauty from the soul and  having nothing ordinary structures shapes like still-lifes from a world to be rebuilt for sheer joy of heart and soul peacefulness.

In this paintings we found nothing but estetical optimism passing trough art to express himself in the realm of peace and love that the world offers to us  when we wish to live in  positive vibrations ,which are the  best human qualities so many times unrespected.
